Prevention

It is a commonplace to protect investments, designer bags and accessories are no different. But how do you care for such an expensive item that was made to carry everything from messy makeup, to pens and other odds and ends? Also, can remedy be done when things do go wrong? Just find out almost everything you want to know from here!

Note: Preventions are defined according to general types of material being exposed to weathering and accidents, therefore, illustrations' representing the preventions do not exclusively reflect or specify certain brands.

Colour Fading - You can only slow down the process. You can keep your bags away from UV rays/ sunlight, hot weather and high humid. Stop using products which are harmful to delicate materials and contribute to colour fading. Keep it in the dust bag (or white pillow case with minimum 220 thread count) provided to reduce UV rays.

Delortae Agency SPA can do a colour restoration or gloss revival on leathers. Suede and nubuck can be dyed upon request and sense of touch might be altered. There's limited solutions we can do for other materials.

Colour Transfer - Colour run on materials is irreversible, Avoid contact with furniture, garments etc. that can cause colour migration. Colour run on Patent/PVC material items are permanent. Take extra care when storing bags /items together; please avoid direct contact of different colours (as long as items have different colour) as they tend to migrate colours to each other (especially but not exclusively Patent/PVC items).

Delortae Agency SPA can do a colour restoration on the leather. Light colour transfer on canvas and other materials can be cleaned by us. For medium to heavy denim stains, it can only be minimised. Bags are like clothes, if washed too many times, original colours can fade a little. That is a risk we'll never take unless upon request. As for Patent/PVC items will most likely stay permanent! (a stage 4 skin cancer)

Denim/Jeans dye transfer - Be very, very careful; heavy denim colour transfer to your beloved belongings is irreversible (especially dark colour denim). Do not ever come in contact with any denim.

Freckles - Keep your belongings away from dark and moist areas. Freckles often (but do not exclusively) occurs when kept in wardrobe.

Delortae Agency Spa can do a deep cleansing, disinfection and a colour restoration to cover away the mould spots on the leather. There's nothing permanent we can do to save Patent/PVC items. Canvas items can be washed and disinfected to minimise or remove completely. Suede & nubuck items will most likely be permanent (Upon request, we can do a disinfection and colour restoration, sense of touch might be altered.)

Folds, creases, and winkles - No! You cannot get rid of folds by ironing it! Avoid these problems by stuffing pearl or plain paper inside the bags to keep it in the right shape. Keep straps properly aligned. Undo strap buckles during storage of items. Unbuckling of the straps before storage will reduce/stop areas becoming impressed and unattractive.

Handles and straps - You can most likely slow down and minimise the process. If your hands sweats a lot, contrails (trust us, it will) soil, hair/ beauty products, skin lotions etc. This means that proper hand washing should be observed before handling your designer items. Dead skin cells contribute to soiling of handles as well. So to minimise this problem, hang the handles on your elbow if possible. For strap, avoid sleeveless clothes to minimise contact with skin.

Ink Marks - Although designer bags would indeed make good surfaces to jot things down on paper, it is highly recommended that another surface be found. Keep the pen caps on; in bag's lining or better still, forego the pen. Home remedies e.g. using rubber or hairspray usually creates more or enlarge the original problem.

Make Up - Please take care if you often find yourself hugging your bags to your face (with make up on!) Or when placing cosmetics in your designer bag, place your cosmetic products in a separate plastic bag to prevent spillage.

Musty Odours - Keep your items away from dark and moist areas. Allow free flow of air if possible. When your items have been hit by liquid e.g. rain, make sure it is totally dry before storing it. Make sure the place that is used to store your items is free of mould and mildew.

Odour - Keep your sweat away from designer items. For shoes, change your socks often. Moist environment plays a big part for the bacteria and fungi to grow. As our dead skin cells provide food for them, it is advisable to have minimum contact between your skin and items as well.

After that, item will be given a deep cleansing & disinfecting service ensuring dead skin cells, fungi, bacteria and waste material (from bacteria) deep in the canvas, leather fibres and other materials are uprooted. This service will leave the item clean & odour free. In rare & extreme cases, odour will only be minimised.

Oil Stain Marks - Keep food, sweat, skin, skin lotion etc. away from your articles. When accident happens, do not try to remove yourself by rubbing it. Chances are, you will broaden the problem.
MyBagSpa offers an oil extraction service and a deep cleansing ensuring oil is uprooted from canvas and other materials.

For leather materials, an oil extraction service is performed on affected area. A deep cleansing service and a colour restoration is often necessary after the oil extraction service. For suede & nubuck materials, deep cleansing process will usually be able to remove or minimise oil stains. Upon request, suede or nubuck can receive a colour restoration; sense of touch might be altered.

Oxidation - Try to minimise the process by not exposing materials to too much humid or water as both contains oxygen. For metal, try to avoid wearing off the protecting layer (usually plastic coating) on it.

Canvas, suede, nubuck as well as other materials will receive a deep cleansing process and possibly remove or minimise discoloration. Upon request, suede or nubuck can receive a colour restoration; sense of touch might be altered. For metal piece, Delortae Agency SPA will polish and apply a layer of protection to slow down oxidation.

Patina Leather - If you want to slow down the process on the leather, reduce exposing to sunlight/ UV ray. If you love it, under controlled and monitored conditions, patina can be achieved using mild sunlight/ UV ray exposure to the leather. To keep it clean, minimise contact between your skin and the leather.

Red/pink spots - Keep your belongings away from dark and moist areas. Red rot often occurs when kept in wardrobe (Because it is dark and cosy, it is ideal for mould/bacteria to grow).

Sticky - Keep your articles in cool places and stay (especially Patent/PVC leather & canvas) away from hot weather, high humidity & overly exposed sunlight. Normal canvas is one of the victims as well. Stickiness will not likely be happening during winter/ autumn seasons.

Soiling - Since there's no stopping, you might as well minimise it? Keep your items away from dirty areas, make sure your hands are clean, never place it on the floor etc.

This service leaves not only the surface clean, but deep inside the materials as well.

Tarnished Metal - Try to keep wear and tear to the minimum. When liquid substance gets in contact on the metal piece, wipe it off and blow dry it when possible. Once oxidation occurs, polishing it might help.

Water/Liquid Stain Marks - Yes it might be raining heavily, but please do not use your bags as your umbrella. Instead, keep your precious items covered as much as possible. When liquid stains do occur, dap it gently with a piece of dry cloth to remove as much as possible and blow dry it when possible.

Other materials will have the option of getting a deep cleansing & disinfecting service. Liquid stains on other materials, depending on the seriousness, can be removed completely or be minimised.

Wear & Tear - Since there are no stopping scuffs, try to minimize it. Avoid causing any friction on material, e.g. garments, jeans, walls etc. To prevent tear, keep your bags in moderate weight will retain their life span (particularly but not exclusively to stitches and straps).

Delortae Agency SPA can restore leather fibre for minor wear & tear, deep cut or tear on leather will require repairs that might alter the look and feel of the items. Scuffs on other materials are usually permanent.

Yellowish/dull - Usually an irreversible process. You can only slow down the course of action. Keep your items away from UV rays/ sunlight, hot weather and high humid. Stop using products which are harmful to delicate materials that contribute to yellowish. Keep it in the dust bag (or white pillow case with minimum 220 thread count) provided to reduce UV rays. Patent/PVC materials are more (but not exclusively) likely to get affected. Avoid oil stains, dead skin cells, sweat, lotions, alcohol based products etc. directly on the materials.

Yellow Stain Marks - Try to keep rust/ tarnished zip and metal piece from getting scuffed and oxidised. For metal zip, apply bee/candle wax on it. For metal piece, usually there's a layer of protection possible lacquer coating to prevent rust and oxidation. Once scuffs/ wear and tear occurs, there's really nothing much you can do except to keep them away from rain & liquid substance from speeding up the oxidation process (polishing it might help). And keep your items away from sunlight, hot weather and humid places.

Delortae Agency SPA can offer to polish up your metal piece, apply bees wax on metal zip, apply protection on metal piece, but all these are just a temporary fix and needs reapplying. We can apply colour corrections on leather. For the rest of the materials, we can only minimize visibility. Stickiness on materials can only be minimized. Upon request, suede or nubuck can receive a colour restoration; sense of touch might be altered.

General tips on how to take care of your items:

Keep in a cool, dry and well ventilated (Bags are like us, they need to constantly breathe fresh air). Storage of items in plastic containers is not advisable because this can lead to discolouration of the leather.

Protect items from heat and direct sunlight because both can cause colour changes
